10 MW Football Student-Athletes Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released its 2015 Academic All-District Team and 10 Mountain West football student-athletes were honored. Boise State’s Jake Hardee, Sean Wale and Steven Baggett, Hawai‘i’s Kory Rasmussen and UNLV’s Blake Decker and Mike Hughes, Jr., were District 7 First Team. Fresno State’s Justin Northern and Jacob Vazquez and San José State’s Tim Crawley and Wes Schweitzer earned District 8 First Team distinction.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where three teams will be named later this month.
Hardee, who has caught two passes for 51 yards and a score, has a 3.60 grade point average while studying political science/criminal justice. Wale has a 3.80 GPA in health science, while averaging 41.2 yards per punt this season. Baggett, a second-year starter on the Broncos offensive line, has achieved a 3.77 GPA in construction management.
Rainbow Warriors defensive lineman Rasmussen has played in all nine contests this season, racking up 28 tackles. The native of ‘Ewa Beach, O’ahu has a 3.34 GPA in communications.
UNLV starting QB Decker has a 3.42 GPA in marketing. On the field, the native of Mesa, Arizona, leads the Rebels with 1,009 passing yards this season. Hughes, Jr., a defensive lineman for the Rebels, has a 3.31 GPA while concentrating on criminal justice. He has started all eight games this season, tallying 14 tackles.
Fresno State is represented by two offensive linemen. Northern has a 3.79 GPA while studying mechanical engineering, while his teammate Vazquez is the only MW representative with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Vazquez is majoring in agricultural business.
Rounding out the MW selections are Spartans wide receiver Crawley and offensive lineman Schweitzer. Crawley, who has caught 25 passes for 252 yards this season, is majoring in business MIS and has a 3.81 GPA. Schweitzer, a biochemistry major, has a 3.42 GPA.
