2014 Mountain West Women's Soccer All-Conference Teams Announced

Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Mountain West announced the 2014 Women’s Soccer All-Conference teams today. Wyoming freshman forward Kaitlyn Lomsnes was named both the Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, while Utah State senior defender Taryn Rose earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Wyoming head coach Pete Cuadrado garnered Coach of the Year accolades. The individual awards and two All-MW teams were selected by the league’s 12 head coaches.

Lomsnes is the first freshman in the history of the MW to earn the Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year award, and the first Cowgirl to claim the honor since Tamika Wilson was Co-Offensive Player of the Year in 2007. The forward led the Conference in goals (10) and points (22) to pace Wyoming to a second-place finish in the regular-season standings with an 8-3 mark.

Rose anchored a Utah State defensive unit that allowed the least amount of goals in league play. The Aggies surrendered just seven goals in their 11 Conference matches. Rose started all 11 of those contests and played a total of 998 minutes. In addition to her stellar defensive effort, she contributed on the offensive end, scoring a goal in Utah State’s 2-0 win at New Mexico on Oct. 19.

Coach of the Year honors went to Wyoming’s Cuadrado. The Cowgirls opened league play with a 7-1 mark and finished with an 8-3 record in Conference matches, including a perfect 5-0 at home. The Cowgirls’ second-place finish in the regular-season standings is the highest finish for a Wyoming team since the inception of the Mountain West in 1999.

San Diego State, the three-time regular-season and two-time defending tournament champion, led all teams with five All-Conference honorees, including three first-team members in senior midfielder Kelsey Booth, senior forward Haley Locker and senior midfielder Katie Perry.

The 2014 MW Women’s Soccer Tournament is set for Tuesday, Nov. 4, Thursday, Nov. 6 and Saturday, Nov. 8 at the SDSU Sports Deck on the campus of San Diego State University. All five matches of the six-team, single-elimination tournament will be broadcast live and for free on the Mountain West Network.
