2015 Mountain West Women's Soccer Championship Preview
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 2015 Mountain West Women’s Soccer Championship opens play on Tuesday, Nov. 3 with two first round matches. The six-team, single-elimination tournament will be contested at the San Diego State Sports Deck on the campus of San Diego State University. The winner of the 2015 MW Women’s Soccer Championship earns the Conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship.
All five matches will be broadcast live and free of charge on the Mountain West Network powered by Campus Insiders. Live stats for each match will also be available on the 2015 MW Women’s Soccer Championship Central page.
Tuesday will see a pair of first-round matches, starting at 4 p.m. PT. Kicking things off will be No. 6 UNLV (11-9-0, 6-5-0 MW) taking on No. 3 New Mexico (9-8-1, 7-3-1 MW). The Lobos have won three of their last four matches, while the Rebels are riding a four-match win streak into the Championship. UNLV downed UNM, 3-1, during the regular season in Albuquerque on Oct. 4.
Following the UNLV-New Mexico match is No. 5 Colorado College (8-11-1, 6-5-0 MW) going up against fourth-seeded Wyoming (10-5-4, 6-4-1 MW). The Cowgirls bring a three-match win streak into the contest. It took overtime to decide the regular-season meeting between the two programs as the Tigers ended up with a 2-1 decision at home.
San Diego State, which clinched its fourth straight regular-season championship this season, is the three-time defending tournament champion and enters the 2015 MW Championship as the No. 1 seed. The Aztecs have won their last 10 matches and finished the regular-season with a 14-4-0 overall record and a 10-1-0 MW mark to capture the top spot. San José State, making its first appearance in the tournament, is the No. 2 seed, thanks to an 8-3-0 record in league matches. The Spartans (10-7-2 overall) and Aztecs each receive byes into Thursday’s semifinal round.
The winner of Tuesday’s first match will play San José State at 4 p.m. PT on Nov. 5 in the first of two semifinal matches, while either Wyoming or Colorado College take on San Diego State at 7 p.m. PT on Nov. 5.
The 2015 MW Women’s Soccer Tournament concludes on Saturday, Nov. 7 with the championship match, scheduled for a 7 p.m. PT start time.
