COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah State senior Ali Ashner earned the Mountain West Softball Player of the Week honor, while San Diego State junior Dee Dee Hernandez was tabbed the MW Softball Pitcher of the Week. The MW Softball Freshman of the Week nod went to New Mexico pitcher McKenna Guest.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ALI ASHNER, UTAH STATE
Senior, OF, Phoenix, Arizona/Arizona
- Helped the Aggies to a 3-1 week with one win over Idaho State, 6-4, and two wins over Boise State, 2-1 and 9-1 (5 innings).
- The senior hit .500 on the week, going 5-for-10 from the plate with three doubles and a home run.
- Also tallied three RBIs and four scored runs.
- Defensively, notched nine putouts for Utah State.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
DEE DEE HERNANDEZ, SAN DIEGO STATE
Junior, RHP, La Crescenta, California/Crescenta Valley HS
- Helped the Aztecs to a 2-1 series win over Fresno State, going 2-0 in the circle.
- The junior appeared in all three games and started in the final game of the series.
- Logged four strikeouts, allowed only five hits with no runs, and ended the weekend with a 0.00 ERA over the course of 10.1 innings in the circle for San Diego State.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MCKENNA GUEST, NEW MEXICO
Pattonville, Texas/Prairiland HS
- The freshman logged 13 strikeouts in 16.2 innings of pitching for the Lobos.
- Registered a 1.26 ERA while allowing eight hits and three earned runs.
- Was credited with New Mexico’s two wins on the week against UTEP, 6-1, and UNLV, 2-1 (8 innings), carrying a no-hitting into the seventh inning against UTEP.
