MW Softball Players of the Week - May 6

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State’s Mac Barbara was named the Mountain West Softball Player of the Week, while New Mexico’s Amber Linton was tabbed the MW Softball Pitcher of the Week and Lobo teammate DeNae Vasquez-Dickson was selected as the MW Freshman of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MAC BARBARA, SAN DIEGO STATE
Junior, First Base, Long Beach, California/Ole Miss
• Hit .545 in three games against UNLV on the week (6-for-11), collecting three hits in each of her last two games.
• Added a walk in game one for a .583 on-base percentage for the series.
• Slugged 1.273, hitting two home runs and a pair of doubles against the Rebels.
• Homered twice, drove in four runs and scored three in San Diego State’s 13-4 win on Saturday, which clinched the regular-season MW title and the top seed in the upcoming MW Softball Championship for the Aztecs.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
AMBER LINTON, NEW MEXICO
Senior, RHP, Franklin, Indiana/Indiana
• Went 1-1 with a save and a 2.44 ERA in three appearances against Fresno State, helping New Mexico to the series win against the Bulldogs for just the third time in program history.
• Allowed just one earned run in a 4-3 win over the Bulldogs on Thursday, throwing a season-high 173 pitches in a season-high nine innings of work that included seven scoreless frames.
• Struck out five in the contest, including the final Fresno State batter with the bases loaded in the ninth.
• Got the save on Friday with 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Entered with the bases loaded and two outs in the fifth and induced a fielder’s choice to escape the jam.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
DENAE VASQUEZ-DICKSON, NEW MEXICO
Outfield, Grapevine, Texas/Colleyville Heritage HS
• Hit .455 (5-for-11) in New Mexico’s series win over Fresno State.
• Slugged .545 and had an on-base percentage of .500 for the week.
• Drove in two runs and scored twice.
• Hit an RBI double off the wall in left center in the bottom of the ninth Thursday for the walk-off 4-3 win, capping a 3-for-5, two-RBI day.
• Singled and scored in the other two games of the series.
