COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West announced its 2023-24 Men’s Golf All-Conference team and individual awards today, as selected by the 11 head coaches. New Mexico senior Bastian Amat earned Mountain West Golfer of the Year honors, while Fresno State’s Ryan Firpo was named MW Freshman of the Year. New Mexico’s Jake Harrington was named the MW Coach of the Year in his first season at the helm.

Amat, currently No. 22 in the Scoreboard by Clippd rankings, is the highest-ranked MW men’s golfer this season. The senior from Condette, Pas-De-Clais, France, has produced a 69.7 adjusted scoring average and six top-10 finishes in 2023-24, including wins at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in October and the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in February. Amat, who was the MW Golfer of the Month for October and the MW Golfer of the Week for Feb. 1, has turned in consecutive top-10 finishes entering NCAA regional play, as he finished fifth at The Thunderbird Collegiate to cap the regular season before finishing ninth at the MW Men’s Golf Championship. He and the Lobos will compete at the West Lafayette Regional at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana, on May 13-15. Amat, the 2020-21 MW Freshman of the Year, becomes New Mexico’s seventh MW Golfer of the Year and the first since a stretch of three straight from 2012-15.

Firpo becomes Fresno State’s first MW Men’s Golf Freshman of the Year. The rookie from Davis, California, has fashioned a 72.6 adjusted scoring average over 33 rounds this season, tops among league freshmen. Firpo, who has earned the starting nod in all 11 of the Bulldogs’ events so far, has turned in four top-30 finishes, highlighted by a 13th-place showing at the El Macero Classic in his hometown to earn MW Freshman of the Week honors on April 18. He has helped the Bulldogs to five top-five team finishes this season, including runner-up efforts at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in September and the Lamkin Invitational in March, and most recently, a fifth-place finish at the MW championship. Firpo and the Bulldogs, ranked 55th nationally, are back in the NCAA postseason for the first time since 2010 and will compete at the Stanford Regional at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, California, from May 13-15.

In his first year leading the Lobos, Harrington earned New Mexico’s seventh MW Coach of the Year honor and first since his predecessor, Glen Millican, captured the honor in 2018-19. Harrington’s Lobos enter NCAA regional play ranked No. 23 in both the Scoreboard by Clippd rankings and the Bushnell/Golfweek DI Coaches Poll and have finished inside the top three in seven of their 12 events this season. Harrington led New Mexico to team titles at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate and National Invitational Tournament, as well as four runner-up finishes and a third-place showing throughout the season. His squad charged four spots up the leaderboard on the final day of the MW championship to finish regulation tied with San Diego State but fell in a playoff for the title. The Lobos, who are the No. 4 seed in the West Lafayette Regional, are making their fifth straight regionals appearance and are looking for their second straight trip to the NCAA Championship.
