LAS VEGAS - Entering its 28th year, the Mountain West Conference officially begins a new era, marking a meaningful step in the league's continued growth and long-term strategic vision while maintaining its commitment to competitive excellence.
As of midnight on July 1, the Mountain West features a comprehensive membership model that brings together full-time, all-sport institutions alongside select sport-specific members. With the addition of men’s soccer and men’s swimming & diving, the league will now sponsor 21 sports.
The Conference's all-sport members — the United States Air Force Academy, the University of Hawai?i at Manoa, the University of Nevada, Reno, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the University of New Mexico, San José State University, the University of Texas at El Paso and the University of Wyoming — will continue to compete across the full Mountain West portfolio, including football.
The University of California, Davis joins Grand Canyon University, which just completed its first full year in the MW, as all-sport members outside of football, while Colorado College (women's soccer), North Dakota State University (football), Northern Illinois University (football and women's gymnastics) and Utah Tech University (baseball and men's soccer) will compete as affiliate members in designated sports.
Sustained Competitive Excellence
The Mountain West enters this new chapter from a position of strength, having built a national reputation for competitive excellence across multiple sports. Conference programs have continued to achieve success on the court, field, pool, track and in the classroom, producing NCAA champions, postseason appearances and nationally recognized student-athletes.
With the addition of new members and affiliate institutions, the Conference further enhances its competitive opportunities while expanding its geographic reach and visibility across the western United States and beyond.
A Transformative Media Future
The new era coincides with the beginning of the Conference's landmark media rights agreements, providing unprecedented exposure across national broadcast and digital platforms.
The Mountain West Conference announced a new media rights package in February featuring CBS Sports, FOX Sports, The CW Network, and Kiswe. The agreements with CBS Sports, FOX Sports, and Kiswe run for six years (2026-27 through 2031-32), while the CW Network has committed to a five-year partnership through the 2030-31 season. These strategic collaborations provide extensive visibility and coverage across broadcast, cable, and streaming platforms for Mountain West football and men’s and women’s basketball, along with a broad array of Olympic sports.
Enhanced Digital Experience
Fans, media and stakeholders will also experience the launch of a redesigned Mountain West digital ecosystem, highlighted by a new Conference website drive by SIDEARM that delivers improved navigation, enhanced storytelling, streamlined statistics and a modern user experience.
The Conference's growing digital strategy will also be supported through
MW+, its new direct-to-consumer digital subscription platform, powered by leading streaming technology and services company, Kiswe. The platform marks a significant step forward in the Conference’s digital evolution, delivering expanded access to live and on-demand content, while creating new opportunities for fan engagement and revenue generation for member institutions. A majority of each subscription purchased through a member school’s dedicated page will directly support that institution, creating a scalable and sustainable revenue opportunity aligned with fan engagement.
