AFA's Jax & UNM's DeVito Named to Golden Spikes Midseason Watch List

DURHAM, N.C. – Air Force pitcher Griffin Jax and New Mexico catcher/designated hitter Chris DeVito were named to the midseason watch list for the 2016 Golden Spikes Award presented by USA Baseball, the organization announced on Wednesday.

Jax, a junior righthander from Greenwood Village, Colo., currently leads the Mountain West with a 1.59 earned run average and is second in wins (6) and strikeouts (60). Jax is currently 6-2 on the season and ranks third in the conference with 62.1 innings pitched. In nine starts so far this season, Jax has allowed two-or-fewer runs in eight starts. Earlier this season, he went 24.1 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.

DeVito entered the week ranked second in the NCAA in total bases (112), fifth in hits (63), seventh in slugging (.762), ninth in RBI (48), ninth in batting average (.429), 13th in home runs (11), 15th in RBIs per game (1.30), 24th in doubles (14) and 26th in home runs per game (0.30). DeVito has also thrown out three runners stealing this season in his first season as a catcher.
