Aggie Golfers Win Weber State Hosted Battle in the Tetons
VICTOR, Idaho - Utah State shot a final round 1-under 287 to finish with a 7-under 857 (294-276-287) to win the Weber State hosted Battle in the Tetons held here at the Headwaters Golf Club at Teton Springs Resort on Monday and Tuesday.
Overall, it is Utah State's first tournament win since Oct. 17, 2009 when it won the Utah Collegiate Shootout held in St. George, Utah.
Utah State posted a seven-shot win over second-place Utah Valley who finished with an even par 864 (295-293-276). The Aggies sat in fourth-place in the six team field following its first round 6-over 294, before shooting the team low round of the tournament Monday afternoon with its 12-under 276.
Individually, Utah State sophomore Tanner Jenson finished the tournament in second-place with a 6-under 210 (74-64-72) for his best-ever collegiate finish. Jenson, who shot a course-record and collegiate low 8-under 64 during his second round Monday, was just one shot away from tying for medalist honors as Southern Utah's Fidel Concepcion carded a 7-under 209 (66-71-72). Both Jenson and Concepcion had even par rounds of 72 on Tuesday.
Junior Seokwon Jeon also finished in the top five for Utah State as he shot a final round 4-under 68 to finish fourth overall with a 4-under 212 (72-72-68). Other Aggie finishers included sophomore McCoy Willey who finished seventh with a 1-under 215 (74-69-72), while senior Grahm Schmaltz placed 23rd with a 7-over 223 (74-71-78) and sophomore Eli Rogers finished tied for 28th with a 12-over 228 (77-76-75).
Utah State will return to action this weekend at the U.S. Air Force Academy hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6-7.
