Butkus Award Watch List Features Four MW Student-Athletes
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Four Mountain West football student-athletes appeared on the preseason Butkus Award watch list, announced on Tuesday morning. The Butkus Award honors the nation’s best linebacker.
Boise State’s Tanner Vallejo, Colorado State’s Kevin Davis, Fresno State’s Jeff Camilli and San Diego State’s Calvin Munson represent the MW on the Butkus Award watch list.
Over 12 games in 2015, Vallejo finished with 57 tackles (32 solo), third-best on the team, tied for second with a pair of forced fumbles and tied for fourth with 8.0 tackles-for-loss. Davis led the Rams in tackles (101) and tackles for loss (14.0), while earning All-MW honorable mention honors last season. Camilli is the Bulldogs leading returning tackle, finishing with 76 in 2015 while playing in 11 contests. Munson led the Aztecs in multiple categories in 2015 at linebacker, including tackles (98), tackles for loss (15), sacks (9.5) and fumble recoveries (2, tied), while adding two interceptions (both returned for a touchdown), two forced fumbles and seven quarterback hurries.
