Colorado State Men and New Mexico Women Hold Top Spots in Mountain West Midseason Cross Country Coaches’ Polls
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado State men and New Mexico women sit atop the Mountain West Midseason Cross Country Coaches’ Polls as announced today by the Conference. The Rams, who are ranked No. 21 in the latest USTFCCCA national men’s rankings, received five first-place votes and 47 points overall, while the No. 11-ranked Lobo women collected nine first-place nods and 99 points total.
In the men’s poll, CSU claimed the top spot by just three points over No. 18 Boise State. The Broncos earned 44 points overall and three first-place votes. Defending Mountain West champion Air Force is third with 38 points. Following the Falcons are New Mexico in fourth and Utah State in fifth with 29 and 23 points, respectively. Wyoming (21 points), San José State (13 points) and Fresno State (9 points) round out the poll results.
On the women’s side, defending NCAA national champion New Mexico ranks first ahead of second-place Boise State. The No. 10-ranked Broncos received two first-place votes and 92 points total. Colorado State follows Boise State in third with 79 points. Spots four through six were separated by just six points with Air Force earning the fourth position with 68 points, followed by Wyoming in fifth and Utah State in sixth with 63 and 62 points, respectively. Nevada ranked seventh with 47 points, while San José State collected 35 tallies to come in eighth and Fresno State’s 24 points landed them in ninth. San Diego State and UNLV tied for 10th with 18 points to conclude the poll.
The 2016 Mountain West Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Boise State at Falcon Crest Golf Club in Kuna, Idaho on Friday, Oct. 28. The entire championship will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network.
