LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Colorado State volleyball team will begin the 2015 season ranked No. 12 in the AVCA Division I Coaches Preseason Poll. Voting was conducted by Division I head coaches, and the poll was released by the AVCA on Wednesday.

The No. 12 ranking is the third-highest in program history, and the highest since the Rams opened the 2004 season at No. 11.

In total, CSU has spent 266 weeks ranked since the inception of the AVCA poll, which is the 14th-most in the nation. The Rams have been either ranked or receiving votes in the preseason poll all 19 seasons that Head Coach Tom Hilbert has been at the helm.

Four of CSU’s 2015 opponents are ranked in the top 25, including No. 3 Texas. The Longhorns also received one first-place vote. The other three opponents included in the poll are No. 16 Arizona State, No. 21 Iowa State and Texas A&M (receiving votes). Six of CSU’s non-conference opponents appeared in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.

Penn State, winner of the last two national championships, opens the year at No. 1, with Stanford, Texas and Florida rounding out the top four, with Nebraska and Wisconsin tied for fifth.

The Rams ended the 2014 campaign ranked 12th, and were ranked as high as No. 6 during the year. CSU was listed in the top-10 in 11 polls last season.

CSU reported for fall camp on Sunday and began two-a-day practices on Monday. The six-time defending Mountain West champions will begin the 2015 regular season on Aug. 28 versus Baylor
