The Skinny – All eyes are on coach Bryan Harsin, who begins his tenure with the Broncos in 2014 after replacing longtime coach Chris Peterson who bolted for Washington. Harsin has big shoes to fill, as the Broncos lead the Football Bowl Subdivision in three major categories: wins (155), winning percentage (.856), and scoring (40.24 points per game) since 2000. And while senior quarterback Grant Hedrick is set to take over the offense, running back Jay Ajayi is the critical component for Boise State this fall. He rushed for 1,425 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2013 as a redshirt sophomore, and the touchdowns were the third-most for a single season in school history. A breakout season for the 6-foot, 216-pound power back would take the pressure of Hedrick, and allow him to create and get more people involved on offense.
Says Harsin, on the standard set at Boise State - "We embrace the past (but) we can't just sit there and rely on that and say we're gonna do it because it's happened. So I really think from this point on it's a turning point in our program to go back and now we establish this staff and this team moving forward. We have to take those expectations and re-establish them."
