Five Mountain West Student-Athletes Named 2014 AVCA All-Region

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Five Mountain West volleyball student-athletes were named to the 2014 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region teams today. Colorado State’s Deedra Foss (Sr., S), the 2014 Mountain West Player of the Year, is joined on the All-Pacific North Region Team by teammate Adrianna Culbert (Jr., OPP) and honorable mention selection Sierra Nobley (Fr., OH) of Boise State. New Mexico’s Chantale Riddle (Sr., RS) and UNLV’s Bree Hammel (So., MB) were named All-Pacific South Region honorable mention.

This marks the 16th consecutive season that the Mountain West is represented on the AVCA All-Region squads. Since 1999, 88 MW student-athletes have earned All-Region accolades and 52 have gone on to garner All-America status. The 2014 All-America team will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 17.

The AVCA expanded the postseason awards program in 2013, splitting up the Mountain West teams among the Pacific North and Pacific South regions. The additions were made to recognize the elite talent across the nations. The teams are now specialized by position with the 14-member teams including five outside hitters, three middle blockers, two setters, one libero/defensive specialist and three at-large selections. Previously, the top 14 players, regardless of position, were selected.
