LAS VEGAS - Former UNLV women's golf standout Dana Finkelstein has officially earned her 2017 LPGA Tour Card after finishing seventh in the final 2016 Volvik Race for the Card money list standings. The Symetra Tour, officially dubbed The Road to the LPGA, announced its 10 card-winners during a ceremony at Alaqua Country Club following the conclusion of the Symetra Tour Championship presented by IOA.
Finkelstein, whose final money tally totaled $76,314, was consistent all year long with seven top-10 finishes and 18 cuts made in 19 starts, but it was her tournament win at the Garden City Charity Classic at Buffalo Dunes in Garden City, Kansas in September that solidified her spot in the top-10 of the standings. The four-shot victory moved her from 13th to fourth, with her ultimately finishing in seventh overall.
“It’s really a dream come true," said Finkelstein via Symetra Tour. "Coming into this year, I probably wouldn’t have expected to get my card, but obviously that was my ultimate goal. I’ve wanted it a lot this year and I feel ready to compete on the LPGA Tour next year.”
Finkelstein becomes the fourth former UNLV golfer to qualify for the LPGA Tour, joining Hwanhee Lee 05', Sunny Oh 04' and Therese Koelbaek 11'. Both Finkelstein and Koelbeck played under head coach Amy Bush-Herzer. Finkelstein is the first to earn a spot on the tour via the Symetra Tour.
A Chandler, Ariz., native, Finkelstein played for the Rebels from 2011-15, becoming one of the most successful golfers in program history. During her time at UNLV she earned five individual wins, including three during her senior year -- a season that culminated with her finishing as the runner-up for the ANNIKA Award, an honor given to the top women's collegiate golfer in the country. The three-time Mountain West Golfer of the Year was just the second player in UNLV history to earn All-American first team honors during her collegiate career and helped the Rebels earn a Mountain West title in 2013.
Bush and the current Rebels are back in action tomorrow at the Betsy Rawls Invitational in Austin, Texas, competing in the 54-hole tournament on Oct. 17 and 18. UNLV will tee off in the shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. central time on Monday morning.
