MW Punters Hunt, Carrizosa Named Finalists For Ray Guy Award

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Colorado State’s Hayden Hunt and San José State’s Michael Carrizosa have been named finalists for the Ray Guy Award, an honor given annually to the nation’s top punter. The announcement was made by the Augusta Sports Council on the ESPNU Home Depot College Football Awards Nomination Special on Tuesday afternoon.

Hunt, who is the fourth Ram to ever be named a finalist for a major college football award, has landed 21 punts inside the opponents 20-yard line and boomed 12 kicks more than 50 yards. His 46.3 average ranks fifth nationally, but as a team the Rams’ 43.41 net punting average is second among all FBS teams.

Carrizosa is the nation’s leader with a 47.9 average per kick. He has pinned 16 punts inside the opponents 20-yard line and 22 of his kicks have traveled at least 50 yards. The Spartans net punting average ranks third nationally (41.78).

The third finalist for the Ray Guy Award is Utah’s Tom Hackett, who received the honor in 2014.

Hunt and Carrizosa will travel to Atlanta, Georgia for the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Thursday, Dec. 10. The show, which is set for 7 p.m. ET, will air on ESPN.
