Keanah Smith Joins Mountain West Staff

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson has announced the hiring of Keanah Smith as senior associate commissioner. Smith will serve as the primary administrator for the league's overall championships operation.

Smith brings over 20 years of intercollegiate athletic experience to the Mountain West. Most recently, she served as the associate athletic director and chief operations officer at Miami University Ohio. She joined the RedHawk staff in 2007 as the assistant athletic director for game operations and was promoted in 2010 to associate athletic director for game and internal operations. During her time at Miami, she was responsible for all aspects of athletic events hosted on Miami University's campus and established comprehensive policies, procedures and protocols for the RedHawks' 16 varsity sports. With her promotion in June 2015 to chief operations officer, she added oversight of athletic communications, fan, campus and community engagement and ticket operations.

Prior to her time at Miami, Smith served as an assistant director of championships at the NCAA from 2001-07, and as an assistant director of championship at Conference USA (1999-2001). She also spent time at Appalachian State (1997-99) as an assistant coordinator of academic services following an internship at Conference USA (1996-97).

A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Smith earned both of her bachelor's degree in health and sport studies in 1994 and her master's in sport studies in 1995 from Miami. Her graduate assistantship was with the Miami men's basketball program. Following her graduate studies, Smith worked as an administrator for the Reggie Miller Basketball Camp and a coordinator of training for Indiana Special Olympics.

Smith will begin at the Mountain West on March 2.
