Mountain West Announces 2017 Football Schedule


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 2017 Mountain West football schedule was released today and is comprised of 97 games, including 48 Conference matchups. The scheduling format for the 12-member football lineup consists of five intra-divisional games and three cross-divisional contests. Each institution will play four home and four road Conference games. 2017 marks the first year of the new four-year cycle and the fifth year overall featuring the current rotation.

The 2017 schedule will play out over 14 weeks, concluding on Sat., Dec. 2 with the Mountain West Football Championship Game to be played at the home stadium of the highest-ranked of the two divisional champions.

The nonconference slate features 27 games against teams that earned bowl berths in 2016, including Alabama (two games), Army, BYU (six games), Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Michigan, Navy, Northwestern, Ohio State, South Florida, Stanford, Texas A&M, Toledo, Tulsa, Utah, Wake Forest, Washington, Washington State (two games) and Wisconsin. Nine nonconference opponents finished ranked in last year’s final USA Today/Coaches’ and Associated Press Top 25 polls, including #2/2 Alabama, #4/4 Washington, #6/6 Ohio State, #9/9 Wisconsin, #10/10 Michigan, #12/12 Stanford, #15/17 Colorado, #19/19 South Florida and #21/23 Utah.

The kick times for two Boise State nonconference games have been set. Virginia at Boise State will kick off at 6 p.m. MT on Friday, Sept. 22 on either ESPN or ESPN2, while the Broncos road contest at BYU is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. MT on ESPN on Friday, Oct. 6.

Today’s release represents the first phase in the 2017 football schedule process. Mountain West national television partners CBS Sports Network and ESPN will continue a selection procedure which will include the shifting of additional games to Thursdays and Fridays. That will be followed by the identification of national network outlets and kick times, along with the picks for regional partner ROOT SPORTS, Mountain West Network on Campus Insiders and OC Sports (Hawai‘i).

The 2017 MW football membership includes Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming in the Mountain Division and Fresno State, Hawai‘i, Nevada, San Diego State, San José State and UNLV in the West Division.
