Mountain West Announces Cross Country Athletes of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State junior Jerrell Mock garnered Mountain West Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for the second consecutive week, while New Mexico junior Alice Wright was named Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for meets contested through Oct. 1. It is the second-career Mountain West weekly accolade for Mock and first for Wright.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
JERRELL MOCK, COLORADO STATE
Junior, Logan, Utah / Logan HS
  • Continued his strong start to the 2016 season with a second-place finish at the Washington Invitational in Seattle, Washington on Oct. 1. 
  • Clocked a time of 23:25.5 over the 8k course. 
  • Improved upon his winning time at the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 24 by over 90 seconds. 
  • Finished second to three-time defending national champion Edward Cheserek of Oregon. 
  • Led CSU to a second place finish in the team standings behind No. 3 Oregon and ahead of No. 21 Washington and No. 24 Washington State. 

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
ALICE WRIGHT, NEW MEXICO
Junior, Worcester, England / The King’s School, Worcester
  • Was runner-up at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational in Notre Dame, Indiana on Oct. 1. 
  • Covered the 5k course in 16:16, 4.3 seconds behind champion Anna Rohrer of Notre Dame. 
  • Was in third place at the four kilometer mark, but rallied to cross the finish line in second. 
  • Improved on her finish for the third-straight year at the event after placing fifth last year and eighth in 2014. 
  • Helped the Lobos place fourth out of 23 programs in the team standings.
