Mountain West Announces Cross Country Athletes of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force's Patrick Corona has been named Mountain West Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, while Boise State's Allie Ostrander earned MW Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for meets contested Oct. 9-17. It is the second career MW weekly accolade for Corona and the third for Ostrander.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
PATRICK CORONA, AIR FORCE
Senior, Fairfield, Connecticut / Fairfield College Preparatory HS
•Finished 12th out of 288 runners at the Pre-National Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky on Oct. 17.
•Completed the 8k course in a time of 23:33.1, the second-fastest time by an Air Force runner since 1996. He currently holds the fastest time (23:23.1) with his performance on Oct. 2 at the Washington Invitational.
•Helped the No. 29 Falcons to an eighth-place finish out of 42 teams, their highest Pre-National finish since 2004.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
ALLIE OSTRANDER, BOISE STATE
Freshman, Kenai, Alaska / Kenai Central HS
•Won the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin on Oct. 16.
•Her time of 19:19.5 on the 6K course is a personal best and new course record, besting the former course record held by seven-time NCAA Champion Abby D'Agostino of Dartmouth by 12 seconds.
•Raced past two former NCAA Champions Arkansas' Dominique Scott and Notre Dame's Molly Seidel in the last kilometer to capture the victory.
•Became just the second freshman in meet history to win the race.
•Named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Women's National Athlete of the Week on Oct. 19.
•Guided the No. 6 Broncos to a sixth place finish in the 36-team field.
