Mountain West Announces Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force’s Patrick Corona and David Elliott of Boise State have been named Mountain West Men’s Indoor Co-Track Athletes of the Week, while Air Force’s Taylor Smith earned MW Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of Week honors for meets held February 12-13. It is the fourth career MW weekly accolade for Corona, third for Elliott and second for Smith. On the women’s side, Boise State’s Allie Ostrander garnered MW Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, while Jannell Hadnot of New Mexico was named the Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week. It is the second career MW weekly honor for Ostrander and first for Hadnot.  

MEN’S CO-TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
PATRICK CORONA, AIR FORCE 
Senior, Fairfield, Connecticut / Fairfield College Preparatory
Broke the Air Force record in the 3,000 Meter run with a time of 7:50.60 at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington on Saturday, February 13. 
Finished the event second amongst collegiate runners and third overall. 
In the Mountain West record book, the mark is the second-fastest all-time. 
His time is the best in the MW this season and ranks eighth in the nation. 

MEN’S CO-TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
DAVID ELLIOTT, BOISE STATE 
Senior, Puyallup, Washington / Squalicum HS
Became the first Boise State runner to record a sub-four minute mile in school history with a time of 3:57.68 at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington on Saturday, February 13. 
Finished first in the event, while becoming the 461st miler to register a sub-four minute mark in U.S. Track & Field history. 
His mark is the third-best in Mountain West history. 
The time ranks first in the MW and fourth nationally this season.  

MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
TAYLOR SMITH, AIR FORCE
Junior, Clovis, California / Buchanan HS
Broke the Air Force High Jump record for the second time this season with a clearance of 7’-2.25” at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Saturday, February 13. 
The jump is the best in the MW this season and ranks seventh in the nation. 
His mark is the second-best clearance in league history. 

WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
ALLIE OSTRANDER, BOISE STATE
Freshman, Kenai, Alaska / Kenai Central HS
Broke the all-time Boise State and Mountain West record in the 3,000 Meter run with a time of 8:54.27 at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington on Saturday, February 13. 
The mark is nearly 10 seconds faster than the previous MW record of 9:04.06. 
Her time is the fastest in the MW and in the nation this season. 
It is the 10th-fastest all-conditions time in NCAA history in the event. 

WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
JANNELL HADNOT, NEW MEXICO
Junior, Oakland, California / Tokay HS
Tied the New Mexico all-time record in the Triple Jump with a leap of 43”-2.5” at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Saturday, February 13. 
The mark is the best in the Conference this season by 16.5 inches. 
Her leap ranks 12th nationally this season.
