Mountain West Announces Men's Tennis Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah State freshman Romai Ugarte has been named Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played February 18-22. It is the first career MW weekly honor for Ugarte.

  • Helped lead Utah State to a 1-1 week, defeating UT-San Antonio (4-0) after suffering a road loss at No. 10 Texas Tech.
  • Went 2-2 in both singles and doubles play during the week.
  • Posted a 1-1 singles record in the No. 5 and 6 singles positions. Defeated UT-San Antonio’s Takeru Watanabe in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 to secure the dual match for the Aggies.
  • Partnered with Luis Lopez at the No. 1 doubles spot to knock off Diogo Casa and Fabian Brand of UTSA (7-6), helping the Aggies clinch the doubles point. The Utah State teammates nearly upset Texas Tech’s double squad, ranked second nationally, earlier in the week but was ultimately defeated 6-4.
