Mountain West Announces Men's Tennis Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico sophomore Bart Van Leijsen has been named Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played March 9-14. It is the first weekly award of his career.  

MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
BART VAN LEIJSEN, NEW MEXICO
Sophomore, Drenthe, Netherlands / Nambia Secondary School 
  • Helped lead New Mexico to a 3-0 week with wins against USF (4-0), Grand Canyon (4-0) and Utah State (4-1) on March 11, 11 and 12, respectively. 
  • Went 3-0 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles matches. 
  • Recorded straight-set victories in the No. 2 singles spot against Ryan Marker of USF, 6-4, 6-3, Grand Canyon’s Felix Schueller, 6-2, 6-4, and Jonas Maier of Utah State, 6-4, 6-4. 
  • Teamed with Hayden Sabatka to defeat USF’s Nils Skajaa and Vasco Valverde, 7-6 (7-4), in the No. 1 doubles position.
