Mountain West Announces Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week

 

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior Freddy Gelbrich has been named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while Air Force sophomore Chloe Forlini earned MW Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors for matches played April 1-7. It is the third career MW weekly accolade for Gelbrich and first for Forlini.

 

MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
FREDDY GELBRICH, SAN DIEGO STATE

Junior, Isernhagen, Germany / Carl-Fredrich GauB Schule

  • Went a combined 4-0 at the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles positions to help guide No. 37 San Diego State to Conference victories over Fresno State (6-1) and Nevada (5-1).
  • In singles, defeated Fresno State's Sai Kartik Nakireddi by a 6-4, 6-3 score. He also posted a 6-2, 7-6 (7) win over Nevada's Moez Charqui.
  • Paired with Hendrik Jebens in doubles and the duo secured the doubles point for the Aztecs in their match with the Bulldogs, thanks to a 7-5 victory over Youssef Hassan and Euan McIntosh. Gelbrich and Jebens also topped the Wolf Pack's Moez Charqui and Robert Allan, 6-3.

 

 

WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CHLOE FORLINI, AIR FORCE

Sophomore, Roseville, California / Granite Bay HS

  • Secured a 4-0 record between the No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles positions as Air Force topped MW opponent and nationally ranked No. 69 Utah State 6-1.
  • Playing at the No. 1 singles position, defeated Boise State's Adrianna Paules in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. She also recorded a win over Utah State's Lexi Turley, 6-0, 6-2.
  • Swept a pair of double matches with teammate Jocelle Rudico at the No. 3 slot. The tandem scored a 6-2 win Boise State's Teal Vosburgh and Milena Toseva and slipped past Utah State's Nini Guensler and Lexi Turley, 7-5
