Mountain West Announces Softball Player & Pitcher of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State’s Lindsey Willmon has been named Mountain West Softball Player of the Week, while the Bulldogs’ Jill Compton earned MW Pitcher of Week honors for games held February 11-15. It is the first career MW weekly accolade for Willmon, while Compton earns the 10th weekly award of her career.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LINDSEY WILLMON, FRESNO STATE
Junior, First Baseman, Elk Grove, California / Hawai‘i 
Finished the week batting .467 (7-for-15) with five RBIs, five runs scored, two doubles and two home runs in Fresno State’s 5-0 weekend at the ASU Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona. 
Recorded a home run and two RBIs in Fresno State’s season-opening 7-0 shutout versus Indiana on Friday, February 12. 
Registered a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate with three RBIs, two runs scored, two doubles and one home run in the Bulldogs’ 7-3 win over then-No. 8 Tennessee on Friday, February 12. 
Added a hit and a run scored in Fresno State’s 2-0 blanking of No. 23 Utah on Sunday, February 14. 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
JILL COMPTON, FRESNO STATE
Senior, RHP, Oceano, California / Arroyo Grande HS 
Pitched in four games last weekend including three starts, helping Fresno State open the season 5-0. 
Posted a 3-0 record and a 0.33 ERA.  
Fanned 17 batters, while allowing just one earned run in 21.0 innings pitched. 
Started and went six innings, while striking out seven in the Bulldogs’ season-opening win against Indiana (7-0) on Friday, February 12. 
Went the distance in a victory over Boston College on Saturday, February 13. Allowed just three hits, one run, while fanning six. 
Tossed a complete-game shutout to help Fresno State defeat No. 23 Utah, 2-0, on Sunday, February 14.
