Mountain West Announces Staff Promotions And Additions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West has promoted three current staff members, in addition to hiring two interns for the 2015-16 academic year as announced today by Commissioner Craig Thompson.

John Sullivan has been promoted to Assistant Commissioner for Championships. Stormy Buonantony, Production Assistant / Host for the Mountain West Network, has been retained as a full-time employee after working as intern last year, while 2014-15 Sports Administration Intern Lynn Hughes returns for a second year and will focus her efforts in the areas of compliance and communications. Andrew Melroe has been named the Strategic Communications Intern and Sierra Zamora will serve as the Championships / Sport Administration Intern.

Sullivan, who previously served as the Assistant Director of Operations, will now be the sport administrator for men’s golf, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s indoor track and field and men’s tennis. Sullivan, a 2007 Consensus All-American in football, graduated in 2008 from the University of New Mexico with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. He received his master’s degree in sport administration from California State University, Fresno, in 2011. Sullivan has been with the Mountain West since 2010.Buonantony will continue her work with the MWN, which includes shooting and editing video packages, developing and implementing video content promoting the Conference and its member institutions. She is a 2014 graduate of San Diego State University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Hughes will serve as the primary media contact for cross country and softball, in addition to her various daily tasks in the compliance department. She will also work with the Mountain West Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Hughes is a 2011 graduate of Indiana University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. She earned her Master of Education degree from the University of Oklahoma in 2013.

A 2014 graduate of the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science degree in parks, recreation and tourism, Melroe joins the Mountain West after completing successful internships at his alma mater and Minnesota State University Moorhead. At the MW, Melroe will assist in all facets of the Conference’s social media and digital content strategy and implementation. Zamora is a 2013 graduate of Colorado Mesa University with a Bachelor of Science degree in sport management. She earned her master’s degree in management from Arizona State University in 2014. She will provide support for regular season and championship elements for men’s and women’s cross country, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, women’s swimming, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, softball and baseball.
