Conference Play: Nevada continues to hold a two-game lead atop the standings at 18-6. San Diego State is in second at 16-8, followed by New Mexico in third place at 13-8. MW action continues this week with three series - Fresno State at San José State, Nevada at New Mexico and UNLV at San Diego State.
Academies Resume Series: Air Force travels to Army West Point for a three-game series, May 1-3. It will be the first meeting between the two service academies since 2000 at the Service Academies Classic in Millington, Tennessee. The Falcons lead the series 16-6. It is also the first time since 2000 that Air Force has played Army West Point and Navy in the same season.
Golden Spikes Award Mid-season Watch List: The Nevada duo of Austin Byler and Ryan Howell have been named to the 2015 Golden Spikes Award Mid-season Watch List. The award recognizes the top amateur player in the nation. Byler has been on the list since the preseason, while Howell was added this week.
NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award Mid-season Watch List: Nevada junior Adam Whitt and San Diego State sophomore C.J. Saylor were recently named to the mid-season version of the 2015 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award Watch List. The award recognizes the top collegiate closer in the nation.
Johnny Bench Award Watch List: Fresno State junior Taylor Ward and UNLV senior Erik VanMeetren have been named to the 2015 Johnny Bench Award Watch List. The award recognizes the top amateur catcher in the nation.
Brooks Wallace Award Watch List: Danny Sheehan, a junior from San Diego State, was named to the 2015 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List. The award recognizes the top collegiate shortstop in the nation.
NCBHOF John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award Watch List: Nevada sophomore Trenton Brooks has been named to the National College Baseball Hall of Fame (NCBHOF) John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Watch List for his abilities to play multiple positions well. Brooks plays the outfield and pitches for the Wolf Pack.
NCBHOF Pitcher of the Year Award Watch List: San Diego State junior Bubba Derby joins Nevada's Adam Whitt on the NCBHOF Pitcher of the Year Award Watch List, recognizing the top collegiate pitchers in the nation.
Beating the Top 25: Mountain West teams have picked up seven wins over teams ranked in the Baseball America and USA Today Top 25 polls this season. Fresno State has wins over two different opponents, beating #6/12 USC 14-7 on March 17 and #21/- California 7-2 on March 25, while UNLV stopped #9/9 Arizona State 7-6 in a game that started on April 7 and extended to April 8. The other four wins have been against Texas Tech - February 17 by Nevada 18-4; March 13 versus San Diego State 9-0; and March 24 (7-6) and March 31 (6-5) against New Mexico.
#Populate Peccole: Nevada recorded its first sellout of the 3,136-seat Peccole Park on April 26 game against San José State. Peccole Park is the site of the 2015 Mountain West Baseball Championship, May 20-24.
