2015 MW Baseball Championship Central

On The MWN: The Mountain West Network, powered by Campus Insiders, will broadcast nine Conference games from May 14-16 to wrap up the regular season. The network will broadcast every game of the 2015 MW Championship, May 20-24 at Peccole Park in Reno, Nev. All games on the Mountain West Network are available live, on-demand and free of charge. Championship Seeds Still On The Line: MW regular season action concludes this week with five seeds in the Championship tournament up for grabs. Nevada clinched the 2015 MW regular season title on Sunday, May 3 with a 4-game lead at the time in the standings and one remaining Conference series for the Wolf Pack. San Diego State has earned the No. 2 seed in the tourney with a season-ending 19-10 MW record, while Fresno State and New Mexico are tied for third at 16-11. The Lobos will face the Bulldogs in Fresno this weekend to determine the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds. Air Force, UNLV and San José State will round out the field with the No. 5, 6 and 7 seeds yet to be determined. The Falcons face league-champion Nevada in Reno, while San José State hosts UNLV, Thursday-Saturday.

Whitt Saves: Nevada junior Adam Whitt set the Wolf Pack season record for saves on May 8 with his 14th of the year in a 5-4 win at Creighton.

Three Named Capital One Academic All-District: Three Mountain West student-athletes were named to the Capital One Academic All-District Teams on May 7. Alex Estrella, a junior from New Mexico, and Russell Williams, a sophomore from Air Force, were named to the District 7 Team, while Fresno State senior Taylor Tempel earned District 8 honors.

NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award Mid-season Watch List: Nevada junior Adam Whitt and San Diego State sophomore C.J. Saylor were recently named to the mid-season version of the 2015 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award Watch List. The award recognizes the top collegiate closer in the nation.

Johnny Bench Award Watch List: Fresno State junior Taylor Ward and UNLV senior Erik VanMeetren have been named to the 2015 Johnny Bench Award Watch List. The award recognizes the top amateur catcher in the nation.

Brooks Wallace Award Watch List: Danny Sheehan, a junior from San Diego State, was named to the 2015 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List. The award recognizes the top collegiate shortstop in the nation.

NCBHOF John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award Watch List: Nevada sophomore Trenton Brooks has been named to the National College Baseball Hall of Fame (NCBHOF) John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Watch List for his abilities to play multiple positions well. Brooks plays the outfield and pitches for the Wolf Pack.

NCBHOF Pitcher of the Year Award Watch List: San Diego State junior Bubba Derby joins Nevada's Adam Whitt on the NCBHOF Pitcher of the Year Award Watch List, recognizing the top collegiate pitchers in the nation.

Beating the Top 25: Mountain West teams have picked up eight wins over teams ranked in the Baseball America and USA Today Top 25 polls this season. Fresno State has wins over two different opponents, beating #6/12 USC 14-7 on March 17 and #21/- California 7-2 on March 25, while UNLV stopped #9/9 Arizona State 7-6 in a game that started on April 7 and extended to April 8. New Mexico picked up the latest victory on May 12, beating No. 16/18 Arizona State, 9-6. The other four wins have been against Texas Tech - February 17 by Nevada 18-4; March 13 versus San Diego State 9-0; and March 24 (7-6) and March 31 (6-5) against New Mexico.

#PopulatePeccole: Nevada recorded its first sellout of the 3,136-seat Peccole Park on April 26 game against San José State. Peccole Park is the site of the 2015 Mountain West Baseball Championship, May 20-24.
