Mountain West Men’s Tennis Lands Six Student-Athletes in Preseason ITA Rankings

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Two singles players and a pair of doubles teams from Mountain West institutions garnered recognition in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association men’s tennis rankings. 

Utah State junior Jaime Barajas is ranked No. 123 in singles to become the first Aggie in program history to receive a singles ranking. The reigning Mountain West Player of the Year went 24-9 overall last season from the No. 1 position. UNLV’s Jakob Amilon followed Barajas at No. 124. The Rebels’ senior was named to the All-Mountain West singles and doubles teams following the 2016 spring season. 

In doubles play, the New Mexico duo of Hayden Sabatka and Bart Van Leijsen received the highest ranking in the Conference at No. 15. The tandem went 24-12 last season and were named to the 2015-16 Mountain West All-Conference doubles squad. Also in the doubles rankings, Fresno State’s Euan McIntosh and Mantas Bugailiskis claimed the No. 37 spot. McIntosh and Bugailiskis concluded the 2016 spring season with a 10-3 record and garnered recognition on the Mountain West All-Conference doubles team.
