Mountain West Men's & Women's Tennis Players Of The Week - March 12, 2015

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State sophomore Hendrik Jebens has been named Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Fresno State junior Sophie Watts earned MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors for matches played March 4-9. It is the second career MW weekly accolade for Jebens and third for Watts.

MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
HENDRIK JEBENS, SAN DIEGO STATE
Sophomore, Stuttgart, Germany / Merz-Schule

  • Went a combined 4-1 at the No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles positions to help guide No. 35 San Diego State to victories over No. 22 California (4-2), No. 65 Boise State (4-0) and William & Mary (4-1).
  • In singles, topped all three of his opponents in straight sets. Defeated Cal’s Gregory Bayane, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (1); Boise State’s Toby Mitchell, 6-4, 6-4 and William & Mary’s Damon Niquet, 6-4, 6-3.
  • Paired with Freddy Gelbrich in doubles and the duo took down the No. 31-ranked combination of Bayane and Chase Melton of California, 6-3. They also scored a 6-3 victory over the Broncos’ Mitchell and Garrett Patton.

 

WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SOPHIE WATTS, FRESNO STATE
Sophomore, Hitchin, England / St. Francis College

  • The No. 47-ranked Watts claimed a pair of No. 1 singles victories and one No. 2 doubles match win for No. 42 Fresno State, as they defeated No. 73 UC Santa Barbara 6-1 and Sacramento State 6-1.
  • Won both of her singles matches in straight sets; securing a 7-6 (6), 7-6 (6) win against UCSB’s Jaimee Gilbertson. Scored a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Sacramento State’s Alina Soltanici.
  • Teamed with twin sister Anneka Watts at No. 1 doubles and the sisters bested Sacramento State’s Olivia Boija and Tori Trylovich, 8-3.
