COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Greg Burks has been named coordinator of football officials for the Mountain West as announced today by MW Commissioner Craig Thompson.

Burks will come off the field as a top Mountain West and Big 12 referee, bringing his 30-plus years of on-field experience to the coordinator position. His accomplishments include six state championship games, two NCAA playoff games, four Big 12 Championships contests and 15 bowl games. Burks' officiating career culminated this past Monday night as the referee for the inaugural 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship game between Ohio State and Oregon at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Burks' collegiate officiating experience began with the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in 1990, before he joined the Big Eight Conference in 1992 - which became the Big 12 in 1996. Most recently, he served as a referee in the CFO West, working games in the Mountain West, Big 12 and Southland conferences.

“Greg has been an extremely high-valued collegiate football official for decades and we are thrilled he will take those many years of experience and transfer them into an already successful football officiating program”, said Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson. “We are excited he has decided to join our joint CFO West officiating program and help us build upon that foundation.

A native of Colorado Springs, Colo., Burks earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado. He and his wife, Debbie, have two sons and a daughter; and three grandchildren.
