Mountain West Recap: 2015 NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Mountain West student-athletes earned five honorable mention All-America awards during the 2015 NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatics Center in Greensboro, N.C.

 

San Diego State sophomore Anika Apostalon earned two honorable mention accolades after placing 15th in the 50-yard freestyle (22.22) and 12th in the 100-yard freestyle (48.31). She also swam the lead-off leg of the Aztecs’ 200-yard freestyle relay that earned 16th place and honorable mention with a time of 1:29.54. Joining Apostalon on the relay team were senior Chelsea Bailey and juniors Taylor Johnson and Whitney Weisz.

 

Nevada juniors Yawen Li and Krysta Palmer earned 16 points for the Wolf Pack, the most by a MW team at the finals. Li placed ninth in the 400-yard individual medley with a Mountain West record time of 4:05.56, gaining honorable mention. Li just missed a second honor by finishing 17th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.97). Palmer finished 10th in the 3-meter springboard event with an honorable mention score of 359.60.

 

Air Force junior Genevieve Miller also set a Mountain West record at the NCAA finals. Her 19th-place time of 16:10.58 in the 1,650-yard freestyle surpassed the mark of 16:13.01 she posted at the 2015 MW Championships in February.
