Mountain West Softball Weekly Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After one weekend of play in the 2016 softball season, Fresno State has jumped into both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball Top-25 polls at No. 24 and No. 22, respectively. The Bulldogs went a perfect 5-0, which included an upset victory over then No. 8 Tennessee, at last weekend’s ASU Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona.
The Bulldogs were led by senior right-hander Jill Compton who went 3-0 on the weekend with a 0.33 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 21.0 innings pitched. For her efforts, Compton was named the MW Pitcher of the Week and the Louisville Slugger NFCA Division I National Pitcher of the Week.
This week, the nine MW programs will head to four different tournaments with UNLV, San Diego State and Fresno State serving as hosts at three of the sites. Joining the Rebels at the DeMarini Desert Classic will be Boise State, Colorado State, Nevada, San José State and Utah State. The Aztecs will host the 26th Campbell/Cartier Classic, while the Bulldogs hold the Fresno State Kick-Off at Margie Wright Diamond.

San Diego State opens its tournament with a matchup against No. 18 Kentucky on Thursday, February 18, before playing No. 22 California on Saturday, February 20. New Mexico goes up against No. 25 Texas A&M on Sunday, February 21.
