COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Two weeks into the Mountain West softball schedule, Fresno State (24-9-1 overall) sits atop the Conference standings with a 6-0 record. The No. 23/25 Bulldogs hold a one-game lead over San José State (16-18, 5-1 MW) entering this weekend’s series at New Mexico (18-14, 3-3 MW). The Spartans travel to Logan, Utah for a three-game set versus Utah State (16-13, 4-2 MW). 

Overall, there are 12 league games on the schedule this week along with five nonconference contests. Each of the four MW series get under way on Friday. 

The remaining two MW series feature Colorado State (16-16, 2-4 MW) traveling to the state of California to take on San Diego State (21-16, 3-6 MW) and UNLV (18-20, 2-7 MW) on the road at Boise State (10-27, 2-7 MW).

In addition to its MW series versus San José State, Utah State will play a nonconference doubleheader against Montana on Wednesday. The remaining out-of-conference contests this week feature Nevada (25-8, 6-3 MW) hosting Niagara in a three-game set, beginning with a doubleheader on Friday. 

Mountain West Player of the Week Jessie Hufstetler of San José State garnered national recognition for her performance last week. The senior first baseman was named the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week and Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week after batting .571 (12-for-21) with 12 RBIs, eight runs scored and nine extra-base hits (4 doubles, three triples and two home runs).
