Mountain West Softball Weekly Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following a three-game road sweep of New Mexico, Fresno State (27-9-1 overall) remains in first place in the Mountain West softball standings with a perfect 9-0 record. The No. 23/25 Bulldogs’ 9-0 mark is the best start to league play since San Diego State began the 2006 Conference season 13-0. Fresno State’s No. 23 ranking in the USA Today/NFCA Top-25 poll marks the ninth consecutive week the Bulldogs have appeared in the poll. That streak is the second-longest in MW history, trailing only San Diego State, which was ranked for 13 consecutive weeks in the NFCA poll in 2008.
Fresno State hosts Utah State (19-15, 5-4 MW) in a three-game MW series, beginning on Friday. Prior to its series versus the Bulldogs, Utah State travels to BYU on Wednesday for a midweek, nonconference tilt.
At 7-2 in Conference games, San José State (18-19 overall) sits in second place in the league. The Spartans, 5-0 at SJSU Field, look to remain perfect at home this season when it hosts San Diego State (22-18, 4-8 MW) in a three-game set this weekend.
The remaining two MW series feature New Mexico (18-17, 3-6 MW) at Colorado State (18-17, 4-5 MW) and Nevada (28-8, 6-3 MW) on the road at UNLV (19-22, 3-9 MW). Both series get under way on Friday.
