Mountain West Softball Weekly Release
Conference Title Still Up For Grabs
We've reached the final week of the 2015 Mountain West softball regular season and three teams are still alive in the race for the Conference title. Fresno State (17-4 MW, 37-14 overall) currently holds a two-game lead in the loss column over both three-time defending champion San Diego State (18-6, 35-18) and San José State (15-6, 35-18). The Bulldogs can clinch the MW outright by winnings its season-ending series at UNLV, which gets underway on Thursday. San Diego State is on the bye this week and would win the league title outright with a UNLV sweep of Fresno State and San José State losing at least one game at New Mexico.
Several two- and three-team ties are also in play. San José State holds head-to-head tiebreakers over both Fresno State and San Diego State, while the Bulldogs have the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Aztecs. Be sure to tune-in to the Mountain West Network as every Conference game will be broadcast live and for free.
San Diego State's Bauer And Romero Named MW Player And Pitcher Of The Week
San Diego State’s Lorena Bauer has been named Mountain West Softball Player of the Week, while the Aztecs’ Erica Romero earned the MW Pitcher of Week honors for games held April 28-May 3. It is the fourth career MW weekly accolade for Bauer and third for Romero.
Bauer went 6-for-8 (.750) at the plate with two home runs, six RBIs, four runs scored and three walks as San Diego State earned a Conference road sweep at Utah State.
Romero pitched all 19 innings in the series and allowed just five earned runs to post a 1.84 ERA and earn all three victories.
