Mountain West Women's Soccer Weekly Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San José State will represent the Mountain West in the 2015 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship as announced on Monday by the NCAA. The Spartans (10-7-4) earned the MW’s automatic bid after advancing past San Diego State in a penalty-kick shootout in the title match of the 2015 MW Women’s Soccer Championship on November 7. 

SJSU will square off against No. 1 seed Stanford (16-2-1) on November 13 at 7 p.m. PT in Palo Alto, California. The winner of Friday’s contest will advance to the second round where it will face either BYU (15-2-2) or Utah Valley (14-6-1). 

In its lone tournament appearance, SJSU lost at Stanford 4-1 on November 8, 2000. The Spartans and Cardinal last met on September 2, 2005 in Palo Alto, with the Cardinal winning 5-0. SJSU is 0-4-0 all-time against Stanford. 

Mountain West teams are a combined 15-25-5 all-time in NCAA Tournament matches. The last victory by a MW program in the tournament came on November 16, 2012 when San Diego State defeated Cal, 2-1, in the second round.
