Mountain West Women's Tennis Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State senior Sophie Watts has been named Mountain West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played through Tuesday, February 9. It is the sixth career MW weekly accolade for Watts.

SOPHIE WATTS, FRESNO STATE
Senior, Hitchin, England/St. Francis College

  • In three matches, two against top 16 ranked opponents, compiled a 2-1 singles and 1-1 doubles record.
  • Competing at the No. 2 singles position, Watts defeated Ohio State’s Gabriella De Santis and Wisconsin’s Ekaterina Stepanova in straight sets. Her lone singles loss was to Duke’s Kaitlyn McCarthy, who is ranked No. 29 nationally.
  • Partnered with twin sister Anneka to defeat Ohio State’s No. 2 doubles squad De Santis and Femy Angeles Paz (7-5), helping the Bulldogs steal the doubles point from the Buckeyes.
