Mountain West Women's Tennis Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State sophomore Mayar Sherif Ahmed has been named Mountain West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played through Tuesday, March 1. It is the second career MW weekly accolade for Sherif Ahmed.

  • Helped lead Fresno State to an undefeated 2-0 week, including a victory over No. 40 Washington State (4-3). The Bulldogs also beat Saint Mary’s (6-1).
  • Competing at the No. 1 singles position earned two straight-sets victories, defeating the Cougars’ Maria Biryukova 6-2, 6-2 and Saint Mary’s Aniek Van Rossum 6-3, 6-2.
  • Partnered with sister Rana Sherif Ahmed to defeat Washington State’s No. 1 doubles squad Donika Bashota and Lize Leenknecht, 6-0, helping the Bulldogs earn the doubles point
  • Held a 5-2 lead over Saint Mary’s 60th-ranked doubles team but the match did not finish because Fresno State earned the doubles point with victories on courts 2 and 3.
