Mountain West Women's Volleyball Weekly Release
The 2016 Mountain West women's volleyball season gets underway this week with opening action across the country on Friday, August 26. Teams will compete in 33 matches over the first three days of the season with 15 matches featured on the Mountain West Network (MWN) on Campus Insiders. New Mexico will open the broadcast season at 12:30 p.m. MT against Abilene Christian in the first round of the UNM Tournament in Albuquerque.
Colorado State opens the 2016 season as the No. 25 team in the AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll and as the favorite to win the 2016 MW crown, receiving six first-place votes in the MW Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Rams are the seven-time defending league champions and open the season against North Dakota State on Friday, August 26 at 6 p.m. MT at Moby Arena in Fort Collins.
Boise State and Wyoming also gained some recognition in the preseason Conference coaches' poll. The Broncos earned four first-place votes and will open the season at the TCU Tournament in Fort Worth on Saturday, August 27. The Cowgirls picked up the remaining first-place vote in the poll and will open at No. 20 Purdue on Friday, August 26 at 10 a.m. ET, followed by a match-up with No. 24 Kentucky at 5:30 p.m. ET.
Boise State junior outside hitter Sierra Nobley was named the Mountain West Women's Volleyball Preseason Player of the Year by the league's head coaches on August 17. Over the summer, Nobley led the MW All-Star team to a third-place finish at the 2016 European Global Challenge and was the team's lone representative on the all-tournament team.
