Williams Wins No. 300: Colorado State head coach Ryun Williams earned his 300th win as a 4-year head coach on December 11 against Denver, 81-61. Williams is the fifth Mountain West head coach to reach the 300-victories mark.
Another Milestone On Horizon: Nevada head coach Jane Albright has a few coaching milestones coming up this season. Albright is nine shy from win No. 500 overall and six away from her 100th with the Wolf Pack. Albright will become the third Mountain West head coach with 500 or more career victories – Boise State’s Gordy Presnell - 557; and Utah State’s Jerry Finkbeiner - 510.
Top Spartan: San José State senior guard Ta‘Rea Cunnigan is on pace to set the Spartans’ career scoring record this season, not just for the women’s program but will pass the men’s mark as well. Cunnigan has 1,643 career points. She is 117 shy from reaching the women’s mark (1,760 by Karen Mason, 1978-81) and 124 from the men’s (1,767 by Ricky Berry, 1986-88).
Another Cunnigan Record: San José State senior guard Ta‘Rea Cunnigan became the program’s career leader in free throws made on December 10. Cunnigan was 6-of-6 from the line to bump her career total to 471, passing former Spartan Cricket Williams (466; 2001-04).
Sheedy Hits 1,000: Fresno State senior Alex Sheedy scored her 1,000th career point on December 14 against Cal State Fullerton. Sheedy needed 14 points going into the game and finished up with 19 for a current total of 1,005.
Double-Up on 1,000: UNLV seniors Danielle Miller and Alana Cesarz could each reach the 1,000-career point mark in on December 17 against Northwestern. Cesarz, sitting at 986 career scores, needs just 14 points to reach the milestone, while Miller is 25 points away from the mark (975).
Scoring Record Set: San José State scored a Mountain West record 119 points in the Spartans home opener against Columbia on November 16. The previous mark was 110 by Colorado State against Stony Brook on December 28, 2002. SJSU supplemented the point total with a Mountain West record 42 free throws made in a game, six more than the old record of 37 by Wyoming on March 28, 2007 and TCU on March 4, 2006.
Moe Records Triple-Double: Nevada junior guard T Moe recorded the first triple-double of the season in the league with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists against UC Santa Barbara on November 14. Her rebound and assist marks were single-game career-highs.
WBCA Allstate Good Works Team: Julia Shelbourn of Nevada and Antiesha Brown of New Mexico are among the 93 nominees for the the 2015 Allstate® WBCA Good Works Team. Shelbourn, a junior, serves as the Nevada Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president and actively participates in community services efforts around Reno. Brown, a senior, volunteers her time with several community projects around Albuquerque including visiting the UNM Children’s Hospital and working with the Notah Begay Foundation to reduce child obesity and improve the health of Native American children.
