Mountain West Women's Soccer Weekly Release
Conference Play Begins Friday
The 2014 Mountain West women's soccer season enters Conference play on Friday, with all 12 matches this weekend available live and for free on the Mountain West Network, powered by Campus Insiders. Two-time defending regular-season and tournament champion San Diego State and UNLV paced the field in non-conference play, each posting a 5-2-1 record.
Spartans Continue Stingy Play On D
Through its first eight matches of 2014, San José State has shut out four of its eight opponents and allowed just five goals. The 0.592 goals-against average leads the Mountain West and ranks 33rd nationally. Junior goalkeeper Zoe Makrigiannis leads the Conference in shutouts (four), save percentage (.865) and goals-against avearge (0.61). Makrigiannis was named the MW Defensive Player of the Week after stopping all four shots in the Spartans' 1-0 win over Portland State on Sept. 21.
Colorado College Looks To Continue Home Streak
The Tigers are unbeaten in their last 18 home matches (16-0-2) and are 3-0-1 at home in 2014. Colorado College, playing in the Mountain West for the first time, begins Conference play with a pair of home matches. On Friday at 1 p.m. MT, they take on Utah State (4-3-1) and then play host to Boise State (3-3-3) on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. MT.
