Mountain West Women's Soccer Weekly Release
First-Place Showdown On Friday
Wyoming, winners of five straight, head to San Diego to take on the Aztecs at 7 p.m. PT on Oct. 26 at the San Diego State Sports Deck, in what will be a matchup of two teams that are currently tied for first-place in the Mountain West standings. The Cowgirls (7-1-0 MW, 9-6-1 overall) and Aztecs (7-1-0, 12-3-1) are perched atop the league table with 21 points apiece. Both teams have secured a berth in the 2014 MW Women's Soccer Championship, which will take place at the San Diego State Sports Deck, Nov. 4-8. Friday's first-place showdown, along with all 11 other Conference matches this weekend, will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network.
Hats Off To Hines
Fresno State freshman forward Ashari Hines notched the league's second hat trick of 2014, and 32nd overall, with her three-goal performance in the Bulldogs' come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Colorado State on Oct. 19. Hines scored the game-tying and game-winning goals for Fresno State, and became the first Fresno State player to record a hat trick since the Bulldogs joined the Mountain West in 2012.
Utah State is currently third in the MW standings with 13 points, just two shy of Wyoming and five behind San Diego State. The Aggies have won all four of their home Conference matches, inlcuding a pair last week. Utah State (4-1-1, 8-4-2) blanked San José State 1-0 on Oct. 10, and then slipped past Fresno State 2-1 in overtime on Oct. 12.
Lomsnes Continues To Lead
Speaking of freshmen, Wyoming's freshman forward Kaitlyn Lomsnes continues to lead the MW in goals and total points, with just three matches remaining in the regular season. Lomsnes has scored all nine of her goals this season in Conference play. She's also recorded a pair of assists (she had one assist in non-conference action) and has 20 points through the Cowgirls' eight league contests. Lomsnes scored one goal in Wyoming's 2-0 win over San José State on Oct. 19, and netted both goals in a 2-0 victory at Fresno State on Oct. 17.
Boise State Puts An End To San Diego State's Home Win Streak
Boise State topped San Diego State 2-0 on Oct. 19, ending the Aztecs' 11-match home win streak in the process. The Broncos (3-5, 6-8-3) are tied with Fresno State and UNLV with nine points, just one point behind Air Force for sixth-place in the league standings. The top six teams at the end of the regular season advance to the 2014 MW Women's Soccer Championship.
