Mountain West Women's Soccer Weekly Release
Postseason Picture Becoming Clearer
With the 2014 Mountain West Women's Soccer regular-season set to conclude on Friday, all but one of the six spots in 2014 MW Women's Soccer Championship have been secured. San Diego State clinched its third straight MW regular-season championship on Oct. 26 with a 1-0 double-overtime win at Colorado State. The Aztecs (9-1 MW, 14-3-1 overall), who are hosting the 2014 MW Women's Soccer Championship (Nov. 4-8 at the San Diego State Sports Deck), earn a first-round bye and will play in the second semifinal on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. PT.
Wyoming (7-3, 9-8-1), New Mexico (6-2-2, 8-5-2), Colorado College (6-3-1, 10-5-3) and Utah State (6-3-1, 10-6-2) have all qualified for the tournament, although seeding for the No. 2-5 positions is still to be determined.
Battling it out for the sixth and final spot are three teams: Boise State, San José State and Air Force. The Broncos (5-5, 8-8-3) control their own destiny, as a win on Friday over Utah State earns them the No. 6 seed. San José State (4-5-1, 7-8-3) qualifies with a win over Fresno State and a loss or draw by Boise State, while Air Force (4-5-1, 7-9-1) needs to beat Colorado College and have both Boise State and San José State lose. All six matches on Friday will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
Three-Peat For The Aztecs
As mentioned above, San Diego State won the MW Women's Soccer regular-season championship for the third consecutive year, thanks to victories over Wyoming (5-2 on Oct. 24) and Colorado State (1-0 in double-overtime on Oct. 26). By virtue of earning the regular-season championship, the Aztecs will host the 2015 MW Women's Soccer Championship.
