The Mountain West Network will stream 19 MW matches this week. All matches will be streamed live and are free to view on TheMW.com.

Colorado State begins the season ranked No. 18. It is the Rams’ highest preseason ranking since 2011 (No. 15). The Rams finished the 2013 season ranked No. 21 in the AVCA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.

Nine of the MW’s first 36 matches of the 2014 season will be against Top 40 competition. San Diego State will face two Top 25 teams at the Chevron Wahine Rainbow Invitational - No. 25 Arizona State (Aug. 29) and No. 17 Hawai‘i (Aug. 31), while Boise State hosts No. 4 Washington (Aug. 30). New Mexico, receiving votes, will host No. 2 Texas on (Aug. 29). Other match-ups with teams receiving votes include UNLV against CSUN (twice - Aug. 29 & 30) and California at Air Force (Aug. 31). No. 18 Colorado State hosts two teams receiving votes - UC Santa Barbara (Aug. 30) and Marquette (Aug. 31).

MW teams return 47 starters and 93 letterwinners in 2014. 63 student-athletes make their Mountain West debuts this week.

Jolene Shepardson was named the head coach at San José State during the off-season and makes her debut in the Mountain West this week. Shepardson was the head coach at CSU Bakersfield for the past three seasons.

Utah State will be playing in a new facility in 2014. The Aggies moved into the newly-opened Kirby Court at Wayne Estes Center over the summer. Kirby Court seats 1,400 fans, including chair-backs for 400.

Colorado State (28-2) made its 19th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2013. The Rams won their fifth consecutive MW championship and earned the league’s automatic bid for the ninth time. CSU’s 27-0 start to the 2013 season was the best mark in MW history.

New Mexico finished the 2013 season with 24 overall wins, the most recorded by the Lobo volleyball program since 1988 (25-5).

The Mountain West sent a 12-person All-Star team to Europe over the summer. The squad, led by San Diego State head coach Deitre Collins-Parker, took third place in the 2014 European Global Challenge.
