2013-14 Women's Golf All-Conference Team and Individual Awards
RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – The Mountain West announced its 2013-14 Women's Golf All-Conference team and individual awards at the conclusion of its championship today at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. UNLV junior Dana Finkelstein was selected as MW Golfer of the Year for the second consecutive season, while Sirene Blair of San Diego State was named Freshman of the Year. Coach of the Year honors went to Jill Trujillo of New Mexico.
Finkelstein entered this week's Conference Championship ranked 17th by Golfstat and 19th according to the GolfWeek/Sagarin rankings. She currently leads the Conference in scoring average at 72.08 strokes per round. The junior from Chandler, Ariz., has recorded five top-five and six top-10 finishes this season, including two individual victories. She is the first UNLV golfer to earn the Conference Player of the Year award twice in her career, as well as the fifth Rebel ever to earn the honor (Sunny Oh, 2003-04; Elena Kurokawa, 2004-05; Da Sol Chung, 2005-06; and Therese Koelbaek, 2010-11. She also is the fourth player in Mountain West history to win back-to-back Golfer of the Year plaudits (BYU's Carrie Summerhays, 1999-2000 to 2000-01; New Mexico's Kailin Downs, 2001-02 to 2002-03; and New Mexico's Jodi Ewart, 2006-07 to 2009-10).
Blair earned Freshman of the Year honors after averaging a score of 74.27 during the 2013-14 regular season. The product of South Jordan, Utah posted four top-10 finishes on the year, including two in the top-five and one medalist honor. Blair is the fourth San Diego State golfer to capture MW Freshman of the Year accolades, joining Malin Enarsson (2008-09), Christine Wong (2009-10) and Emma Henrikson (2012-13).
In her seventh season at the helm of the Lobos, Trujillo led New Mexico to its first MW Championship since 2010 and eighth overall, marking her fourth career victory as head coach. UNM recorded three top-five and five top-10 finishes this season. Trujillo receives the Coach of the Year honor for the second time in her career.
Finkelstein and Blair are joined on the All-Mountain West First Team by New Mexico's Sammi Stevens, San Diego State's Emma Henrikson and San José State's Regan De Guzman. The All-Mountain West Second Team is comprised of 2014 MW Individual Champion Gudrun Bjorgsvindottir of Fresno State, as well as Boise State's Samantha Martin, Fresno State's Madchen Ly, San Diego State's Paige Spiranac, UNLV's Mayko Chwen Wang and the New Mexico duo of Manon DeRoey and Manon Mollé.
