COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West has been recognized for its excellence in social media execution after being named a winner for the 2015 Cynopsis Sport Leaderboard on Wednesday in conjunction with the 2015 Cynopsis Sports Engagement Summit in New York City. The Cynopsis Sports Leaderboard showcases brands, organizations, leagues and networks and recognizes the best of the best sports social media campaigns throughout the calendar year. It is the only award of its kind to breakout the most prolific, engaging and creative work in this way. Entries were judged on quality of work, creativity, effectiveness and results.

The Mountain West was joined on the 2015 edition of the Cynopsis Sports Leaderboard by the following brands and campaigns:

  • Buffalo Wild Wings: B-Dubs Alive Events
  • ESPN: Applebee's #TopNeighborhoodPlay
  • FedEx and EA Sports: #FedExDeliversMadden
  • Golf Channel: Finding #Feherty
  • National Basketball Association: NBA Draft Social Media Circuit
  • National Hockey League: #MyPlayoffsMoment
  • PGA Tour: Catalyst Social Initiative
  • Showtime Networks: #MayPac
  • Turner Sports: Turner Sports Social
  • U.S. Soccer: 2015 Women's World Cup
  • WWE: WWE Tough Enough

The Mountain West was recognized in particular for its social media efforts during the league's 2015 Baseball Championship in Reno, Nevada. The Conference contended with inclement weather and needed to find a means to maintain the championship "buzz" on its digital and social media channels. During a rain delay on May 22, the Mountain West Network filmed various skits between Fresno State and New Mexico and produced a video that was first posted to the Conference's Facebook page (located at (Facebook.com/MountainWestConference). Within four days, the video reached over 5.5 million people, including over 1.6 million views and more than 91,000 engagements, audience numbers of which grew organically without any paid promotion. Such numbers have continued to expand, and as of December 1, the video has reached 7,356,416 people, including 2,212,883 views and 121,470 engagements.

Singing in the rain? How about playing in the rain? In advance of their game this morning, check out how Fresno State and New Mexico spent last night's rain delay! #mw
