Mountain West Suspends Nevada Football Student-Athlete
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Nevada senior defensive tackle Rykeem Yates has been issued a half-game suspension for targeting and initiating forcible contact against an opponent with the crown of the helmet, in accordance with NCAA Football Playing Rule 9-1-3, during the Nevada at Buffalo game on Saturday, Sept. 26.
This incident was Yates' second under the statute of limitations outlined in MW Rule 220.127.116.11. Therefore, he has been issued an additional half-game suspension for violation of MW Rule 4-Sportsmanship. Yates will be prohibited from participating in the Wolf Pack's next football game, which is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3 vs. UNLV.
The disciplinary action is a result of the weekly review conducted by the Mountain West office of all player safety fouls and falls under NCAA Football Playing Rule 9-6-2. The Mountain West will have no further comment regarding this matter.
