Three MW Softball Players Named To 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Three Mountain West student-athletes were named to the 2014 Capital One® Academic All-District Softball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. San José State outfielder Michelle Cox and designated player Erin Rodriguez, along with Fresno State pitcher Hannah Harris, represent District 8.

All three players advance to the 2014 Capital One® Academic All-America ballot. That team will be announced on May 30.

Cox, a junior, is a business administration major concentrating in accounting with a 3.74 grade-point average (GPA). The Syndey, N.S.W., Australia, native leads the Spartans with six stolen bases, and ranks second on the team in batting average at .343. She has scored 28 runs and driven in 12.

Rodriguez, a sophomore, is maintaining a 3.86 GPA as a child and adolescent development major. The Corona, Calif., native leads the Spartans in MW play at the plate, batting .409 in 18 games started, slugging .500 and posting a .509 on-base percentage. She has 12 RBIs on the season.

Harris, a sophomore, holds a 3.44 GPA and is a media communications and advertising major. The Santa Barbara, Calif., native is 8-8 in the circle with a 2.65 ERA. She has appeared in 23 games for the Bulldogs, with 17 starts.

The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA. Nominated student-athletes were then voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America in their respective districts.
