INDIANAPOLIS - The San Diego State softball team earned a trip to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship for the seventh consecutive season and the 10th time in 14 years, the NCAA announced Sunday night.

The Aztecs (39-17) will play No. 10/11 Michigan (42-12) at 12:30 p.m. PT Friday in Tempe, Ariz., on the campus of No. 3/3 Arizona State (44-10-1), the tournament's No. 9 overall seed. Dartmouth (31-17) is the other team in the double-elimination regional.

The entire NCAA Tempe Regional will be broadcast live on ESPNU.

SDSU, which also made the tournament in 2001, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, is 13-18 all-time in the NCAA championships and 3-4 against teams that made this year's tournament.

San Diego State is playing in Tempe for the second straight year and for the fourth time in its last six NCAA appearances (also 2009, 2011 and 2013).

The Aztecs earned the automatic bid into the tournament after winning the Mountain West with a 16-8 record, including their final four games of the season. SDSU, which was in third place heading into the final weekend of play, swept Boise State at home to secure its third straight MW title and seventh in the 15-year history of the league.

This year's national tournament features 64 teams, with four squads participating at 16 regional sites in a double-elimination tournament. The regional winners will advance to super regional competition for a best-of-three series from May 22-25 at eight campus sites. The remaining eight teams will advance to the Women's College World Series (WCWS), an eight-team, double-elimination tournament with the championship final being a best-of-three series. The WCWS will be conducted May 28-June 4 at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
